- On The Road Meeting
This is a friendly reminder for the upcoming “On the Road” public meeting with La Plata County Board of County Commissioners and key county staff. This is a great opportunity for an informal discussion regarding our community.
Meeting Details:
– Date: Wednesday, August 5, 2026
– Time: 6:00 – 7:30 PM
– Location: Animas Valley Grange (7271 County Road 203)
Key staff from Community Development, the Office of Emergency Management, Road and Bridge, Public Health, and the Sheriff’s Office will be in attendance. This is your chance to bring your ideas and express concerns on important topics, including:
– Safety & Health
– Law Enforcement & Crime
– Sustainable Growth
– Tourism
– Code Enforcement
– Infrastructure development strategies (water, sanitation, and roads)
Animas Valley residents are known to be engaged, and a packed house will demonstrate our community’s active interest. Let’s work together to make this a positive and productive meeting.
Please feel free to share this information on social media, including NextDoor Hermosa. Additionally, since parking at the Grange is limited, carpooling is highly recommended.

- Hawkins Review Posted
The county’s review of the Roberts 3rd Submittal has been posted on the county portal. It indicates that Roberts still has several reports from various organizations to submit. It looks like it will be at least a couple of more months before any public meetings will occur. The report included as Item #2 in our compilation of reports related to the 3rd submittal at the link below:
- Roberts 3rd Submittal
After almost a year and an unusual number of extensions granted by the County, Roberts has finally completed their 3rd Submittal of Roberts Resorts Village Camp Durango. You may recall Roberts’ first Village Camp Durango proposal was introduced in November 2022, and the second proposal submitted in February 2025.
This new submittal is to be reviewed by the County’s outside representative, Senior Planner Tez Hawkins, as was done in previous submittals. Hawkins has listed and addressed concerns from residents in his review to the County in the past, and we trust he will do the same again. However, in an attempt to stay on top of the issue as it progresses, AVAC is asking our members to help us analyze the new submissions. Your feedback on the County portal is important and appreciated.
Click here to find the latest submission documents and directions on how to submit comments to the county website related to this new submission.
NOTE: Hermosa Sanitation has published a public notice in the Durango Herald announcing their plans for expansion (see attached PDF) – presumably driven by future projected demands, not the least of which is the proposed Roberts Village Camp Durango project. This will directly affect the rates for all of their customers. As an HSA customer, you will be paying for the impact of the Roberts VCD capacity. If you are a customer please consider writing a protest to that project (PL20250236) and/or reaching out to HSA directly to express your concern.
Your important feedback will help determine the best approach at halting the insertion of yet another small city into the Animas Valley. As always, your continued support and interest are appreciated!
